The Fox Glacier Township is set amongst some of the world’s most beautiful scenery. Located on the West Coast of the South Island in the Westland National Park it offers breathtaking views of New Zealand’s highest peaks, Aoraki/Mt Cook and Mt Tasman. Surrounding farms and rainforest clad hills also surround the village.
When you arrive in Fox Glacier you immediately feel relaxed in its intimate, village atmosphere. - Walk, helihike, ice climb or experience a scenic flight over the longest and less crowded West Coast Glacier.
- Visit the world famous Lake Matheson. Located only 5 kms from the township and famous for its picture perfect reflections of New Zealand’s highest peaks. The rainforest walkway features abundant birdlife.
- 21 kms west of Fox Glacier is the historic gold mining settlement of Gillespies Beach. There are several walks to enjoy here, the most popular being the 3 hour return trip to a colony of fur seals.
- The township offers a perfect base for hikers wishing to venture up the Copland Track (located 26 kms south of Fox Glacier) to the famous Welcome Flat natural hot pools.
